KINEMATICS OF MACHINES LAB
INTRODUCTION
Theory of machines explains the phenomena of kinematics and dynamics of machines. Kinematics deals with relative motion between the parts, neglecting the forces which act on them. Dynamics of machines deals with the forces acting on the different parts of the mechanism. The important areas of dynamics are balancing, vibrations, whirling and other basic principles of applied mechanics.
For practical knowledge of this subject a well-equipped lab is established in the department which enables students to understand the balancing of machine parts statically and dynamically and also used to understand the dynamic behavior of moving objects. Out of the large number of apparatus available, the names of few machines available are as under:

Machine Shop lab of IGDTUW, MAE Dept. was established to cater the practical learning needs of the students of second year undergoing Manufacturing Machines theory course.
INTRODUCTION
Machining is one of the processes of manufacturing in which the specified shape to the workpiece is imparted by cutting away surplus material. Conventionally this surplus material is removed in the form of chips by interacting the workpiece with an appropriate tool.
Machining Processes:
Single point tool operations: Turning, Boring, Shaping, Planning
Multi-point tool operations: Milling, Drilling, Tapping, Reaming, Hobbing, Broaching, Sawing
Abrasive operations: Grinding, Lapping, Honing, Super finishing.
The machine tools in general, provide two kinds of relative motions. The primary motion is responsible for the cutting action and absorbs most of the power required to perform the machining action. The secondary motion of the feed motion may proceed in steps or continuously and absorbs only a fraction of the total power required for machining.
OBJECTIVE
To Study functions and important parts of the available Machines like Lathe, Drilling, Milling, shaping and Slotting Machine with geometry of tools used in metal cutting. Also practice on Machines to perform operations like drilling, grinding, key way cutting, gear cutting. Learn working on Tool and cutter grinding machine and cylindrical grinding machine.
